About

The purpose of this site is to explore the involvement of Latin American and Latin American diaspora within the punk scene from before the start of the punk movement to more current times. The site wants to explore how the punk scene gained traction in the Latino community and why the scene was appealing, as well as delve into events occurring in Latin America and North America. This project is not necessarily an archive; we encourage you to seek out different artists on your own accord.

About the author

Hello! My name is Yamileth (Yami for short!) Hernandez-Becerra, and I'm the author of the exhibit. I'm currently a student at George Mason University and doing a degree in Foreign Language with a concentration in Korean, which is the fancy way of saying that I'm a Korean language major. I'm a first-generation university student, and my parents are both immigrants. My mother is from Peru, my father is from El Salvador, and I was born in the US. I've always been proud of my heritage, but I always felt distant due to my identity as an American-born Latino. Through this project, I've been able to explore a part of my history that was more expansive than I initially thought.
