Hello! This is my Korean-English translation portfolio, with most of my texts selected by my professor for the Spring semester KORE 440 class. This semester’s theme is lyrics and poetry, which are some of the more difficult types of texts to translate. Translation requires time and patience to figure out how a piece of text should be translated; certain source texts may warrant a direct, clinical translation while others may need extra research conducted to see if a literal translation or finding an equivalent in their target language’s culture would work best. Lyrics and poetry do not usually follow or conform to the standard conventions of grammar or vocabulary. They often use flowery and descriptive language that can be interpreted in numerous ways and thus makes it difficult to translate. We had 12 workshops and the texts are a mix of songs and poetry. I chose the texts for my case study and final translation project. My portfolio includes all 12 workshop texts, a case study presentation, and my final translation project.
