Spanish in Healthcare

I took SPAN 485 – Spanish in Healthcare during Spring 2024. In collaboration with the Mason and Partner Clinics, the objective of the class is to the learn about the dynamics of Spanish within the healthcare system, medical and social services, as well as bilingual interpretation, relations between Hispanic communities and US healthcare system, medical interpretation ethics, and sociolinguistics. The class was split between in-class learning and on-hand learning through clinic visitations amounting to, at minimum, 15 hours. To track progress and share experiences, students were required to post blog posts after each clinic visitation week. I attended the Manassas clinic for my visits.

Due to the semi-casual nature of the blog posts, as well as the fact that I was writing some of the posts during the visits, I used some code-switching in my writing and I did minimal spell and grammatical check.
